Change
your furnace filter, humidifier and water treatment system
filters on a regular schedule, and make a notation on
your calendar when they were changed.
Make a list of items that need routine maintenance and
up-keep. Perform a regular checkup on the exterior of
your home, including: roof, walls, caulking around the
windows and doors, septic system, walks, driveways and
patios.
Purchase two (2) fire extinguishers to keep on hand.
Put one in the kitchen and one in the garage.
Make sure your smoke detectors are working and have fresh
batteries installed. Also you should have at least one
Carbon Monoxide alarm.
Keep a couple of flashlights handy with fresh batteries
in convenient and easy to reach locations, and you should
always have a well-equipped first-aid kit.
Remember that everyone has limitations. Don't be afraid
to call your home inspector or a qualified contractor
if you have a question or a specific problem.
A little effort now will
save a big expense in the future!
